Yes, and my suggestion is that those checks which now reside in e.g. ipw2200's
PRE_BUILD would in the future go to a specific KERNELS file. I don't see how
that would conflict with those checks using stuff in FUNCTIONS. KERNELS would
naturally have these function calls we already have now. (Otherwise than that
the KERNELS file should have FUNCTIONS sourced by default to be of any use.)

The reason why I'm requesting this is that now it's kind of weird that kernel
checks don't really seem to "belong" in any file, although they are a distinct
category of their own.
