I don't really mean to edit it, that was just the way to hack getting SHARED_
prefixes to the persistent variables one needed in a more modern spell.

I do mean to get data from it because I want to make sure spell B is built
exactly as spell A is built, but this SHARED_ prefix on the variables means I
can't pick a variable I want to get data from at will.

In my case I will have to do what Arwed did to the gcc split spells and source
the needed .p file and make sure never to do my change unless the .p file
indicates that the currently installed remote spell was built a certain way,
and
do this in BUILD because that's where I need it, not at CONFIGURE stage.

You called that a dirty method -- in this case it's a pretty decent method
besides actually running gcc directly and checking to see what kind of shared
binary it produces.
