Summary: invalid entries in GNU mirrors list
Product: Sorcery
Version: Devel
Platform: Other
OS/Version: other
Status: NEW
Severity: minor
Priority: P2
Component: Unknown
AssignedTo: sm-sorcery-bugs AT lists.ibiblio.org
ReportedBy: nyoxi AT seznam.cz

I've found out that the GNU mirror I'm using has wrong path set in file
/etc/sorcery/mirrors/GNU. After small check I found out that there are more
mirrors with wrong paths, so I did a check on all mirrors and found this
errors:

1) Mirrors with wrong paths set
- attaching patch
- one mirror has wrong hostname - gnu.mirror.pacific.net.au should be
mirror.pacific.net.au. I have included it here because it dind't fit
nowhere else

2) Some ftp servers don't serve as GNU mirrors any more
- some servers don't mirror GNU server or are seriously broken and
therefor unusabable. Attached patch

3) Some servers seem to not be ftp servers
- some servers aren't ftp servers or are inaccessible to me, I'd feel
much better if somebody could confirm this. Maybe they are just
temporarily down. Attached patch

uiarchive.cso.uiuc.edu
ftp.stealth.net
gnu.cem.itesm.mx
ftp.sea9.com
mirrors.hbi.co.jp
ftp.ayamura.org
ftpmirror.hanyang.ac.kr
ftp.xgate.co.kr

4) Some hostnames fail to resolve
- not sure if this is not some problem here so again sombody should
confirm it before applying the attached patch
Here is list of these hosts:

gnu.ms.uky.edu
ftp.digex.net
boron.club.cc.cmu.edu
www.gnu.unam.mx
ftp.kernel.org.in
ftp.linux.sarang.net
ftp.medasys-digital-systems.fr
gnu.via.ecp.fr
ftp.ci.uminho.pt
ciumix.ci.uminho.pt
ftp.ist.ut1.pt
archive.logicnet.ro
ftp.staken.kth.se
ftp.ch1.chalmers.se
ftp.eunet.ch

5) Some servers require passive transfer
- these servers require passive file transfer otherwise wget fails to
retrive the file. It seem realy strange to me, so if somebody could
confirm it.

sunsite.dk
ftp.mirror.nl
ftp.ntnu.no
ftp.task.gda.pl

And two minor problems:

1) Server ftp.progsoc.uts.edu.au is a little bit strict about
authentification. It seems to require that the domain of e-mail passed as
the password for anonymouse access exists. wget normaly passes for
anonymous transfers e-mail formed from current users name (i.e. root in our
situations) and from hostname of the computer which I think usually isn't
real domain name. This maybe can be solved by using some fake password
e-mail addres like summon AT sourcemage.org, but I doubt we can pass two @s on
commandline without confusing wget (one as part of password and the
second separating the user/pass from hostname).

2) This two servers I found full most of the time so I was unable to log in
and download anything, even if I did, the reacted rather slowly. But I
don't think there's something we can do with it except removing them.

ftp://ftp.inf.utfsm.cl/pub/gnu
ftp://ftp.informatik.rwth-aachen.de/pub/gnu

Final note: the patches should be applied in the order they were mentioned
of cours. Concerning probs 3 and 4 I will monitor the situation for next
few days if anything changes.
