Since the Opteron is cool it can work with 32- or 64-bit applications, but I'm
not sure if the kernel (like on SPARC64) is required to be 64-bit no matter
what. I'd say -m32 is fine for now until we hear otherwise.

The linux kernel calls it x86_64, but Intel's new chip is called that as
well, I
think, or maybe it's ia64e or some such. I believe we've been separating them
into company/chip, and RH, Mandrake, SuSE, and I think a few others call it
amd64 (which I like).
