You /may/ want to setup two x86-64 archspecs, one for 32-bit, the other for
64-bit. When I worked on the SPARC archspecs, the people in #sparc told me
that
most applications are /not/ written to utilize the 64-bit processor, so
compiling with -m64 just makes the binaries bigger and slower. However, if you
want to use /any/ 64-bit applications, the kernel /must/ be compiled with -m64
(I'm going to work on this for the SPARC in the linux spell, eventually, since
the 64-bit SPARC's /need/ to have their kernel compiled with 64-bit to even
work
since they don't have the nice 32-bit emulation support that amd64 does ;)).
