------- Additional Comments From wandre.l AT free.fr 2003-11-21 05:12 -------
"one last attempt... "
that's the last, promise :)
"a) reduce the size of the ISO "
xdelta and glib size are neglictible compared to the "design problem" of the
ISO. the most important thing is to get rid of image.tar.bz2. Benoit has ideas
on it. that means we would (hopefully before or for 1.0) directly boot on a
SourceMage system with the ISO. that would make us gain something like 100mb,
allowing us to add by far more things to get a real rescue disk. so 2mb from
xdelta/glib are not important.
"b) clean up the ISO by removing orphans and unneeded spells "
this has been done as much as possible.

"I think everyone now understands that it's usage is optional and that it
could
be removed from the ISO with no adverse effects. "
it is theorically optionnal, practically needed. remember, no patches for the
ISO, no exception.
"This is a seperate issue to reimplementing a system of making and serving
xdelta patches for those with low bandwidth. "
agreed.
"REPLY
Because it is not used now is a perfect reason to remove xdelta from the
ISO.If someone starts making xdeltas patches available then the user only
needs install xdelta and THEN turn it on from the sorcery menu. "
same answer, no patches of any sort on the ISO. won't be on the ISO when
xdelta
is to be an optionnal depend.

"IF ISO team (now having more appreciation of this and having had some more
feedback from some other users) decides to leave glib and xdelta on the ISO
then mark the bug as closed. "
closed !
