that suggestion (removing the ifdefs) came from the LFS people, I did wonder
if it would break anything but their discussion on the mail lists indicated
it was in fact the right way to go about sanitizing 2.6.X headers?

Maybe I'll just go back to my corner now and work on some simple bugs ...
