Is 1 highest priority, or is 5? I was never too sure of that. And what
would be the diff between a Critical bug of priority 4 and a Minor bug

P1 is the highest. Severity and priority are related, but not the same. Severity is how bad this is, priority is how soon does it have to be done. Sometimes low severity bugs hold high severity ones, so these low severity bugs get higher priority. In SMGL bug database, priority doesn't make much sense. What it can be used for is to prioritize bugs assigned to a single person, such as myself :-). This way, I could try and organize my work better. Maybe.
Severity however is important in any bug database, it shows how much pain this bug causes.
HTH.
