I cast bind (test grimoire) last week and am having problems getting named to
work right running as the user 'bind'. If I run named as bind the command
'dig -x 127.0.0.1' fails with the message that no server could be found and I
can't start|stop the service using rndc. However, if I change the init script
by omitting the '-u bind' option everything works as it should.

I checked the permissions on the /etc/bind directory and all files and
subdirectories are owned by bind:bind. Also, I noticed an odd thing in the
message log. I added a zone for localhost (as per the BIND HOWTO) in my
named.conf file and by creating a corresponding file in /etc/bind/zones but
when running as user 'bind' this zone isn't loaded. If I run it as root then
the message log shows that the zone is loaded. That's what got me thinking it
was a permissioning problem but all the files seem to have the correct
permissions.

If you like, I can provide log snippets and file permissions output but
you'll have to wait until I get home tonight as telnet is broken (see
previous post :-)).

Thanks for any help,

Cory
