I understand where you both are coming from.
I'll try to explain this best I can before I give a compromise solution:

init.d init.d future
before: branch: done: plan:

updates: \ \\ \ \\\\\\\ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \ \
devel--\~-`--~`--`\-`~~~~~~--\`alpha~-`\~-`\~-`\~-`\~-`\-
test----`\---------`\---------`\devel---`-\-`---`---`-\-`
stable----`----------`----------`----------`-----------`-
^^^ rename (you are here)
time: --> --> --> --> --> --> -->

\ integrate up
` receive non-volatile integrations/updates
~ volatile/may break lots updates
- - nonvolatile passivity

This seems like Dr. Moriarty's plan. test gets as many updates as devel
does, for the most part, except for very volatile stuff, with the
renaming.

When CVS is up and running, we will be publishing alpha consistently.

Lace, would it suit you if I published alpha, say, hourly until cvs
comes up online? I'll put a warning in it when it unpacks that it's very
development and could break things, reminding the bleeding edgers that
they probably really want to be on devel grimoire (the old test grimoire).
The history printing code per-grimoire is in sorcery 1.3, so everybody
should get the message (different than per-spell history printing, which
happens only on sorcery update/cast --queue right now). The warning
should be enough to suit hamish, etc., and the publishing would suit
lace, etc. Sound like a good compromise? Lace, it seems you mention that
it would need to be published on codex.sourcemage.org... with cvs (which
can be used with scribe tool) access to alpha, would that suffice in the
long-term? Hamish, would my warning message be good enough to thwart
people walking into unknown traps well enough and be enough motivation to
get as many people on test grimoire?
