No whipping necessary - really not my thing but kind of you to offer ;-)
(Apologies to anyone who would have enjoyed watching)

I'm still on Xfree 4.2.0 and it does have a libXft, but not Xft2 or Xrender,
so I guess that's part of the problem. The stable 4.3.0 version failed to
compile for me (can't remember why now, it was in the depths of a very
frustrating time). Thanks for trying to insulate us from it - I know it's
not possible to be perfect in that regard.
