I'm using standard xfree86 driver "nv", no NVIDIA spells, and no hardware 3D acceleration too :-). Also, there's no reason to disable DRI support in xfree86. I didn't, and NVIDIA and standard "nv" worked fine. HTH.

As usual, if I am sending emails from lookout thenmy Linux side desktop has
some problem or other.

At present it appears that after casting xfree86 (and as advised a while
back making sure not
to select dri or drm in host.def), NVIDIA_driver & NVIDIA_headers, when I
startx I receive
a black screen with some gobldy gook down in the right corner and nothing
else.
Also, to make matters worse my only escape is to press the three findered
salute (ctrl-alt-delete)
and have machine restart.

I have changed nv to nvidia and enabled glx and disabled dri as I have found
on other web sites.
AGPGART is compiled into kernel, should this be a module?

Other than that I am stuck and can only startx if I reset driver to nv but
then get a segfault when i run
glxinfo.

OH ... my log file X says everything is just dandy and I should be stylin
:((
