The main reason I did it that way was to spare a
unnecessary download, in case one already has a
working j2sdk/jre. But a prompt could be added, so
that the user would decide to use the existing jre or
download the binary and the spell would install it
temporarily for him.

It doesn't, I left it in and never remembered to
remove it. Time to add that to the spell... Maybe add
a POST_INSTALL file removing the old binary?

You're welcome! In fact, I really needed a working
j2sdk - I use a lot odigo express (www.odigo.org, a
instant messenger, that joins also MSN, ICQ and AIM),
and I needed java for that... And it has been fun
building this and the OOsrc spell. I have to revisit
that one soon, since it is having lots of problems
with the latest bison.
