I'm very confused as to why everyone's glibc is breaking. When I cast it I simply had another terminal open and when it started complaining I did an ldconfig and it continued on its merry way. Am I missing something?

Julian,

The upgrade from older glibc's is broken, plain and simple. It's been
broken since the decision was made to move everyone to 2.3.1. I would
strongly suggest rolling a system back and trying a fresh cast of glibc
2.3.1. I guarantee you the install, and hence the completion of the spell
build, will fail. Every single system I've done a cast of glibc on in the
past week to get them up to 2.3.1 has failed.

No. casting glibc works fine if your current installation is not
broken. As mentioned earlier the problem are probably broken install
logs. Replace your install log with the attached log and recast.
