this is pretty much up to par with my experience, i was damn lucky to get
glibc2.3.1 on my system (either time). I ran through it 3 seperate times,
actually 4 because 1 died from a power outage (actually overloaded
circuit breaker), but i'll grant you 3 tries to get glibc updated
before one actually worked, last saturday i tried casting it again to
see if i could track down the source of these problems. I managed to
completely and utterly trash glibc in the process. Tried a number of
things, including the solution i posted this morning, which works if
you have two different versions, and you are upgrading. of course if you
are trying to just recast glibc2.3.1 when you already have 2.3.1 thing
break when you try to replace libc and ld, go figure. the way i finally
managed to get glibc back, was to take a failed glibc's source directory,
install into a different directory, cd into it, use find to put the
entire directory tree into a file, then hashed out all the directories
(im paranoid), threw that in as sorcery's install-log, then added in a
line into /var/state/sorcery/packages, then recast glibc. pretty annoying
and unnecesary if you ask me, and definitly not magic.
