So far with all the 2.5 kernels I am unable to get my harddrive detected
properly. I seem unable to find a log of the problem as when I boot back into
my working system the erroneous one is not there :(

I have noticed though that in a good kernel load I get the following:

ide2: BM-DMA at 0xef00-0xef07, BIOS settings: hde:pio, hdf:DMA
ide3: BM-DMA at 0xef08-0xef0f, BIOS settings: hdg:pio, hdh:pio
hda: MATSHITADVD-ROM SR-8587, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hdd: LG CD-RW CED-8120B, ATAPI CD/DVD-ROM drive
hde: IBM-DTLA-307060, ATA DISK drive

Whereas, I notice in the 2.5.xx case I get to the 'hda' entry and then there
is reference to ide0. This worries me as hdd is never mentioned and then
system has kernel panic about unable to open root device. (see past emails
about 2.5.39 for error)

Suggestions have been made to try the following:

root=/dev/hde3
root=/dev/hdc3
root=/devices/disc/disc0

All of which result in failure to boot system :(

So I await anyone with another suggestion as to how I might make this work :)

Craig
