Ok, I've done as much research as I can. I didn't find anything as definite as
I'd like, but Mesa documentation seemed to say that xlib build isn't meant for
integration into the X server. Osmesa build certainly isn't. All the same, I'm
not 100% comfortable with just removing George's patch, partly because my
build
of xorg-server is quite buggy. I made the patch optional instead.

Requesting integration to stable of commit:
23d238f863e383287b0c526ab9bef3ac54b2cff1

I also expanded the help text for mesalib, ennumerating what each built type
produces. I don't suppose integration of this into stable is necessary?
