Hello, mages!
It's been a while since my last announcement about the site and news
around it, so here's a new round!
https://beta.sourcemage.ru/
Now it's super-secure, when all world goes SSL/TLS, we're heading to it
too. It should be safe from POODLE attack (CVE-2014-3566), Logjam
attack (CVE-2015-4000), so only TLSv1, TLSv1.1, TLSv1.2 are supported;
keep that in mind.
Currently, a self-signed certificate for the domains *.sourcemage.ru and
sourcemage.ru is used, but I'm sure with Letsencrypt[0] this year we
will gain a proper one, for sourcemage.org too. I'm monitoring the
status on this side.
Another update on the site is OpenSearch[1] by A9[2]. What it means: you
can go to the site and add it to your search dropdown list with a
single click. That will allow you to perform search through our SMGL
docs database quickly. I find it quite handy when I forget the syntax of
DETAILS :-)
Now, if you've visited the site recently, you might have noticed the
last post[3] about Ansible[4]!
Yeah, it's a try to give an alternative for our rotten Cabal[5] tool.
The idea is about Sorcery module for Ansible providing more power for
work not only with thousands of SMGL systems, but also to keep your
single installation in a good shape.
Please review, test and report back (especially Sorcery hackers, yeah).
There's a request[6] for its inclusion into official modules-extras
collection (will be included in 2.0), which must gain some votes. So
please help us getting noticed and be more productive!
Another distro-related thing is a Docker image[7] for Source Mage.
Thanks to sandalle[8] for his initial work on go and dockerio spells.
The image is based on our recent chroot image which itself is based on
the stable Grimoire 0.61. The only difference that it's stripped
from kernel and modules. Probably we will have to do more work in
this direction to make it minimal yet still usable as an image with
a source-based operating system :-)
Soon it will be updated along with the chroot image, as I told on IRC.
But first of all we have to update the Grimoire with some security
cherry-picks for the last half of the year. I'll try to take care of it
this month.
And the final notice on the steps to getting us noticed is Twitter[9]!
Do not hesitate to follow us, and if you have a better imagination than
me (of course you do), please post your super-cool variants of the
red-black background images we could even vote for and spread them
across such 'social' places! I took my inspiration from the old one you
probably still remember :-)
Thanks!
