Subject: [sm-discuss] recent system update brought new binutils,
breaking configure/gcc...
To: "sm, discuss" <sm-discuss AT lists.ibiblio.org>
Hi,
"sorcery -s" Today brought new binutils.
Unfortunately it broke gcc, now everything which is attempted to be
compiled fails with:
configure: error: in `/usr/src/gettext-0.18.2/gettext-runtime':
configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables
See `config.log' for more details
configure: error: ./configure failed for gettext-runtime
! Problem Detected !
In the config.log I only found as error:
config.status:766: creating Makefile
config.status:766: creating gnulib-local/Makefile
configure:4287: === configuring in gettext-runtime
(/usr/src/gettext-0.18.2/gettext-runtime)
configure:4350: running /bin/sh ./configure --disable-option-checking
'--prefix=/usr' '--sysconfdir=/etc' '--localstatedir=/var'
'--mandir=/usr/share/man' '--infodir=/usr/share/info'
'--with-included-glib' '--enable-threads=posix' '--enable-libasprintf'
'--disable-csharp' '--enable-acl' '--with-cvs' '--with-git'
'--enable-curses' '--without-emacs' '--with-included-gettext'
'--build=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu' 'build_alias=x86_64-pc-linux-gnu'
'CC=gcc' 'CFLAGS=-march=corei7-avx -fPIC -DPIC -pipe -DPIC -fPIC -O3
-O3' 'LDFLAGS=-O3' 'CPPFLAGS=-O3' 'CXXFLAGS=-march=corei7-avx -fPIC
-DPIC -pipe -DPIC -fPIC -O3 -O3' --cache-file=/dev/null --srcdir=.
configure:4355: error: ./configure failed for gettext-runtime
Forgot to ask, what now? :-) I can't revert to prior version of
binutils, cause sorcery -s with the successful install of binutils
removed the old cache...
Would it be I need to get a pretty old one from the chroot image I
still keep? BTW, I've tried other spells (gcc itself) and they all
fail similarly. Resurrecting gcc, to see if overriding something
doesn't work either.
Any ways, any hint would be appreciated...
