What about during installation making a "split screen" and pushing
the documentation side-by-side within the editor selected?

or even *asking the user* to start with either a minimal (lo only)
or example file from the original package materials...

It adds an extra step but does indicate to the user that the mechanism
is at least documented and has an example installed ...

How about leaving a single "installer log" file inside the installed
system
which also leads to having an automated installation option...

How far do we take the non-example empty configs?

make them optional is my idea ... let the user decide from the start
to include or exclude *inline-commented-examples*

Let the user decide!, the SA has final say anyway after the fact so why
make problems larger than they need to be?
