It took longer than I'd like but automated updates are going again. I
don't have all the mirroring stuff done yet but I at least have stuff in
place to be able to do that now.
I'll give a full description of all the changes once they're all done, but
for now, this is what you need to know:
- If you were one of the people who used to upload things to ibiblio, DON'T
DO THAT ANYMORE. ibiblio is no longer the primary, so anything you
upload to there *will* get overwritten or deleted. Instead, upload to
distro.sourcemage.org*, to /srv/distro/download/. The regular
grimoire/cauldron/sorcery/etc. directories exist under that hierarchy,
just like you're used to, and this is what everything syncs from. You
should have access to that tree if you had access to ibiblio before.
However, you'll be using an individual login instead of a shared login,
so please make sure you aren't using a bad umask that makes it so other
people can't modify things later. You should all also be able to sudo to
the 'distro' user if you need that to fix permissions up or anything
along the way; if you're worried about getting permissions right just
sudo to distro and use that to move files into the download tree.
*Yes, distro.sourcemage.org is fawkes right now, but it won't be once I
partition this box via VMs, so please get used to using proper hostnames
for different things you want to do (scm vs. upload vs. whatever).
- Because we're introducing extra layers in the process, the update
schedule has to change some so that we can still try to get updates to
users inside the existing 6-hour cycle. We're now generating tarballs
every 3 hours, with ibiblio syncing every 3 hours on a staggered
schedule. So you'll see new tarballs to download every 3 hours, but the
content in them may be a few hours old already when they're synced.
- Those of you that need to do stable(-rc) grimoire updates need to use a
new script now; you can get it from /usr/local/sbin/update-grimoire on
distro.sourcemage.org. This is the script that does the local tarball
updates too, so read it and modify the config vars at the top for your
own usage on your local machines. If you need help with it let me know.
It expects git 1.5.x. I plan to get this stuff into a git repo when it's
done but not yet.
