I'd like to announce the CastFS filesystem [0]

Due to the lack of a complete solution provided by other third
party groups the sorcery team has descided to develop their own
filesystem for use when installing packages and staging them
automatically when modifications are made to the root filesystem.

Just to clarify this is a fuse filesystem so it doesn't do what ext3
or reiserfs does. CastFS doesn't write to disk or any hardware
directly. CastFS is more of an overlay filesystem that mimics what
you have in your root filesystem and catches all modifications and
puts them in the stage area.
