have been involved with as well.

If you do a lot of (good) work for SMGL then you will be 'popular',
which is what makes a meritocracy (good work earns you 'points', bad
or no work will not gain you points). Meritocracy is just another form
of popularity, but with the popularity being defined by how well and
how much you work for the common good, rather than how eloquent you
speak or how in-step your views (political, social, etc.) are with
anyone else.

There is no limit to how many Leads there can be and the General Developers
do have a say in who gets in, which means that the Lead Developers cannot
keep their status quo if the General Developers want some change (which they
can accomplish by promoting General Developers that have their views to
Lead Developers and motioning to remove Lead Developers who oppose
their views).

There are checks and balances to make sure we are not abused by
anyone. The main purpose of this reworking (IMO) is to allow people
who just want to code and ignore the politics to do so, while those
who're interested in how SMGL is run can work at joining the Lead
Developers and have more of a say (and more responsibility).
