Right. I usually use something like:

case "${HOST}" in
x86_64-*)
# x86-64 specific stuff
;;

i386-* | i486-* | i586-* | i686-*)
# x86 specific stuff
;;

powerpc-*)
# ppc specific stuff
;;
esac

For gcc, i don't know. I think that only BUILD and HOST should be used (since that's what sorcery define).
