i guess it boils down to a "undocumented feature" of some cards. It looks like
those cards use a different color scheme for 8bit colors (the default).

The menu labeled initrd menu works, as do all the others, it's just the colors
mixed up (foreground and background the same)

it can be reproduced, with specific hardware. what i don't know if some people
run smgl on a box which cannot display 1024x768 in 16 bit color depth. it
might
be a nice solution to display the option in the 1st screen you get when
booting
the iso.
