The most likely reason for /bin/true getting removed is that another
package thinks it owns /bin/true.. there are none on my system (gaze
from /bin/true), does anything other than coreutils own it on anyones
system? It's not a protected file, should it be?

The --fix can determin that the file is owned by someone else, it will
emit an error but do nothing, do you have the exact text of the error?
