/usr/share/config/kdm/Xservers is the file provided by kdebase
:0 local@tty1 /usr/X11R6/bin/X vt7
should be in it, I think its the local@tty1 that makes KDM offer "console
login" as a choice from the menu widget.
/etc/X11/xdm/Xservers *might* need its default line changed to mirror the KDM
supplied line (so long ago I don't really remember)
It isn't foolproof though, you will need to pkill kdm after logging in or
kdm/X will just respawn after ~5 minutes
