I think intentionally leaving the original posters address is rude,
I only need one copy to be able to reply and intentionally leaving a non-list
address to expedite help is tantamount to proclaiming "my problems are more
important than anyone elses".
Obviously using a poor mail client without a reply-to-list facility can
occasionally lead to duplicates, this is understandable, I do expect the user
to make some effort in this case though.
I also think mail clients that "break" threads are bad, it corrupts the
usefulness of the archives and often leads to miscommunication.
A poster should also have done a modicum of investigation before asking for
help. No one person's time is more valuable than anothers, and expecting
*immediate* *hassle-free* online help without even having done a preliminary
websearch or look at the manual, I think, is an abuse of our community. (You
probably all already know how I feel about lkthomas)
Having said this I believe people do develop credit too. I might be more
inclined to help someone if they have previously been helpful themselves or
if they have already proven they are not lazy and have tried to help
themselves first. THis is just a normal human reaction though, it is not
something we could quantify in any etiquette guideline.
So in short I would love to see a guide to SMGL mail list and IRC etiquette.
Hamish
ps I do realise this is a broken branch of another thread :)
