Well - I have a HP DeskJet on USB
i needed:
1) some usb modules in the kernel. I have:
[*] Preliminary USB device filesystem
<M> for all USB Host Controller Drivers (EHCI, UHCI, OHCI)
<M> USB Printer support
and a bunch of others for my mouse, scanner, camera, etc...
because i don't want to break my head about which modules to load, i
installed
hotplug.
when i plug in my printer, it shows up in /proc/bus/usb/devices
(or if you have kde - in kinfocenter)
Then i installed hpijs, got some valuable hints and the ppd file from
linuxprinting.org, and i think that's about all i needed.
