I did a sorcery system-update that recast gdm2 and xdm, but xdm must have been second and was the default login. I have since recast gdm2 and it works fine. I'm starting to understant the new init system a bit more. Thanks for that.

Cheers, Duane.

Hi,
I had a bit of trouble converting to the new init.d system. I had to restart from a saved image of mine. I've sorted most out things out but when I boot up and set the default runlevel to 5, gdm doesn't start. The same happend is the default runlevel is 3 and I run "telinit switch 5". However, if I run /usr/bin/gdm manually a login screen appears and everything is OK. I can manage with this but I can see it becoming annoying.

Can anyone help me with this?

Thanks Duane.

Did you recast gdm/gdm2 so the new init script got installed?
What does 'telinit run gdm' tell you?
