A quick fix would be to take network configuration out of the installer
and notify the user to configure it when they boot. I threw together a
basic network configuration tool a while back. If anyone from the cauldron
team would like to take a look, it should be available from:

http://www.upl.cs.wisc.edu/~charkins/netconf.bz2

Take a look at the "Testing Tips" comment at the top for testing it
without mucking with your real network settings. This tool could be
installed with net-tools and the installer could notify the user to run
'netconf' to configure networking.
