I've named mine using characters from Clive Cussler novels:

pitt: Firewall/gateway (he's the first line of defense)
cussler: My main desktop machine
smith: Wife's desktop (Loren Smith, Pitt's significant other)
giordino: My laptop
sandecker: Main web server
royale: Mail server (Tidi Royale is Admiral Sandecker's secretary)
gunn: Another login box
yaeger: Internal file server/Samba PDC

Any other machines I add to the network get names of Pitt's other love
interests, knowing that they probably aren't going to be there for long. :)

I have two desktop machines called bigcat and littlecat. The laptop I used to
use (and still do for some purposes) is neofelis; the SourceMage laptop is
blackcat.

The most cryptic set of machine names I've seen is at pair.com. It starts out
with Greek letters, then Ogham, then a few numbers in languages in no
particular order, then lots of words I don't recognize at all.

I have used Phoenix, but I still rely on Mozilla for mail and recently
the calender program.
I may keep to Mozilla 1.3 and try and work out why it hangs on
keystrokes. Incidently, I installed mozilla 1.3 on a fresh install right
after installing xfree86. But I haven't had any luck with mozilla 1.3a
since.

I'll check this out. I did a brief scan of their site but didn't find much.

The pon script:
#!/bin/sh

ps -C pppd > /dev/null &&
pkill -15 "^pppd$" &&
sleep 5

/usr/sbin/pppd call ${@:-isp}

>>ls -l /usr/bin/pon
-r-xr-xr-x 1 root root 135 Mar 22 08:53 /usr/bin/pon

>>ls -l /usr/sbin/pppd
-rwsr-x--- 1 root ppp 170056 Mar 22 08:53 /usr/sbin/pppd

I'm not absolutely sure how these things work, but it's not overly
important. I might play around.

Cheers, for the answers.
