This was briefly discussed before, and it was mentioned that init.d should
have the same setup as glibc (as an example, the linux spell is another),
where the user is asked if they want to configure, otherwise use what was
before.

Perhaps enter a bug on the init.d spell and someone will get to it. ;)
Better yet, provide a diff ('man diff') of the changes necessary to make
it so. :)
