It's a dicumented (in the lists) after-effect of trying to install new glibc /after/ removing the old one. Reboot without fear, recompile GCC sometime later -- quite important. Also, recompile glibc once again (no errors will occur next time) so that you have a copy of all binaries in cache.

I was doing an update and it looks like glibc was updated, halfway. I can't run anything to check what version is installed and what it was trying to upgrade to. I would look in bugzilla for a fix, but I can't start a browser. I would rather not have to take my machine down. I have a shell open, so I can do bash. The errors being spit out from the install are the same as when I run any program, they read:

root@home:/# top
top: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: version `GLIBC_2.1.1' not found (required by /usr/src/glibc-2.3.1/old.libraries/libc.so.6)
top: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: version `GLIBC_2.2.3' not found (required by /usr/src/glibc-2.3.1/old.libraries/libc.so.6)
top: /lib/ld-linux.so.2: version `GLIBC_2.2' not found (required by /usr/src/glibc-2.3.1/old.libraries/libc.so.6)

Is there a way I can fix this?

Spencer
