inetd is part of `netkit-base' spell, so if it makes sense, we could separate it into a spell of its own and make it conflict with xinetd. Would you like to file a bug about this?

Hmm, this reminds me, why do both inetd and xinetd seem to be required?
shouldn't we stick with one or t'other (pref xinetd).
Also, samba starting from xinetd is Bad, I've found.
