It seems Gnome2 is the only one to not have sound as non-root users. When
I go into sounds and enable it, then switch to the events tab and hit play
on any of the configured sounds nothing happens. I checked that I have
acccess to /usr/share/sounds (where the default Gnome sounds are stored).
Here's the kicker: MPlayer can play files, including sound! In fact, I
can even play the default Gnome sounds using MPlayer!
Perhaps the culprit isn't ALSA afterall... perhaps it's esound? (or
whatever Gnome uses?)
