hi,
i've recently run into some troubles after i've accidently choosen the
wrong optimization (pentium4 instead 3) and reversed (again accidently;
ok i know i'm stupid :-) ) from devel to stable codex and casted some
stuff.
after this total presentation of personal stupidity, some of the most
important tools on a sgml box wouldn't run anymore: wget was one of
them!!
no casting, no summoning anymore!!
my computer really sat dead on the floor and it took quite some time to
figure out what happend and how to solve it (ok, some people may have
fixed it earlier, but hey, what do you expect from a fool like me? ;) ).
i had to manually download the spells and cast them (i've tried glibc
(after that df would run again :) ) and openssl and wget worked again
(maybe there where others in between, i really don't know anymore).
so the question is, shouldn't there be some kind of fallback system, for
cases like this? some kind of rescue spell, that installs precompiled
versions of wget, glibc, openssh etc.? everything that would make the
sourcemage tools work again?
just my two euro cent.
bye,
Tobias
