I realise this isn't much help, but I seem to recall that recent Linux
kernels have a module that allows running another Linux within it
virtually. Also, I remember reading up on free Open Source x86 emulators
(similar to VMWare) that also permit Linux to be installed (but I suppose
that won't help much with a Sparc).

Again, I realise this isn't much help, but it's a place to start looking.
