Ah, PRE_BUILD does that. Well, I don't like that, either, but can you
at least make it refer to a specific commit instead of a moving branch?
Ah, wait, VERSION_1.18 seems to be a tag. So such might work. As for a
newer version, what about:

If it's possible to move to a HTTP URL and a unique filename, I would
muchly prefer that. This makes things work with summon again. This
opens the possibility of properly integrating this tarball into our
fallback mirrors, too. And I get my checksum.

Downside: The download is frikkin' slow from gitlab:-/ But I think we
should pay that price.
