I ran into some .la issues earlier (some glib2 issue so all GNOME apps failed
to build saying glib2.h is being included in the wrong spot and some
g_thread_something is not defined) for something and removed all .la files,
but had to then recast packages to regenerate the .la files or some linking
and running applications failed. Still going through and recompiling
everything to get back the missing files which still cause some failures.

I believe we had a discussion before about just not generated .la files (and
others in the Linux community were of the same mind), but I haven't looked
into this.
