First, if A depends on B, and B is non-free, that doesn't necessarily
affect the freeness of A (unless it does).

Second, I'm not sure why we'd just take the ffmpeg developers' word for it
that libfaac is not free, which is what's going on at some level in these
replies:

[root:/usr/src/ffmpeg-svn]# ./configure --enable-libfaac
libfaac is nonfree and --enable-nonfree is not specified.

[root:/usr/src/ffmpeg-svn]# gaze license faac
Spell License(s)
----- ----------
faac LGPL

[root:/usr/src/ffmpeg-svn] # head ../faac/COPYING
GNU LIBRARY GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE
Version 2, June 1991
...

So at the least this bears more research before just deciding A or B isn't
free vs some developers being weird or assuming some other libfaac is being
used, doesn't it?
