I said my solution is not the prettiest one;-)
So you make it only ask the new question if they are affected.
And default to n, which has the effect that if they update unattendedly
(like they did before), we make sure they have no shadowed passwords.
Of course anyone who updates his box with open eyes (and PROMPT_TIMEOUT
> 0) will see the new query and wonder why it's asked again.
And hopefully read the message above the query.
Then there are ppl who have sorcery update in a cron job. But as the
bug reopener shows, if they are not totally crazy, they look at the
logs / check the system from time to time.

Anyway. I see that your mod means posing the extra question only if
really needed, that's an improvement.
Only question is if we want to default to y to help the ignorant or to
n to keep our motto.

What I really, really want, is a `gaze warnings` with
some /var/log/sorcery/warnings/<date,cast-number,whatever> .
Spells should be able to print out important messages the admin really
should read. When they are visible on demand later (with the bottom
line of cast log saying "There have been warnings - issue `gaze
warnings` to see them"). Normally, the warning messages are buried in
the noise of the log and perhaps just scroll by without a chance of
being noticed.
Some spells give some advice on stuff one should do after cast - would
be nice to have a way to revisit these messages after the cast (without
painful search throup a log on created with &>, which may contain funny
progress bars from cleanse).
I guess this would be a sorcery thing... I know I'm getting on Andrew's
nerves for always suggesting sorcery stuff, but apart from my pending
bugs, this would be an important improvement that would help system
security.
With that feature, we would place a warning that one should check the
passwd files and perhaps run pwconv and ppl with PROMPT_TIMEOUT==0
would still have a chance to react.

But that's future. Go ahead and bring in your improvements. Not forcing
the repeated question is a good thing.

> since if they said 'n' before they may well have meant it.

Hm, they may well not have considered it at all. But that concern is
nothing new.
Perhaps one should also send out a mail to sm-users.

Thomas.
