is this a standalone script/spell or should I submit my locally changed copy
of the smgl.install script ? I was going to add a few more things before
submitting, but if you want the latest I can submit it in a second.

I think I agree with sandalle, a long descriptive name might be better
/etc/sysconfig/smgl-auto-detected-hardware
or something like that, but /etc/sysconfig would be the right place for it.
