Some Oklahoma farm data...
Oklahoma grows about 1,000 new farms per year, over the last few years. The average US reportable farm has gone down in size from 464 acres to 435 acres over the years 1995 to 2002. This excludes the farms which don't have at least $1,000 in farm product sales per year-- subsistence and small garden farms. Oklahoma hasn't lost net farm lands, but farm size is getting smaller as more farmers start up. Of 86,000 Oklahoma farms, 54,000 farms are making under $10,000 per year. That's most of them.
