I've been a member since this list began and have yet to introduce myself until things settled down with the list's name change. My name's Elizabeth and I voluntarily teach other disabled persons how to off-set limited incomes (SSD and SSI) by growing and raising their own food.
I have a total of 7 acres where I raise chickens, turkeys, guenias and mini meat goats. Herefords are coming just as soon as they are weaned. I also have a small "bare bones" orchard consisting of dwarf and semi standard fruit/citrus trees. My garden is small but I hope to enlarge it this year, weather permitting. I grow from raised beds, 30 inches wide. My land has small valleys so I fill these with compost and grow whatever - with seeds that I have handy, as a means of leveling out the land. This year, I'll be trying my hand at growing a variety of rice called Wells.
As a suggestion: I use alot of recycled items to build or make whatever it is I'm needing. I made my greenhouse shelving using free wire closet shelving, with landscape timbers and 2x4's to frame it out with and there is no sagging what so ever. I keep my compost in a wide vegetable bin while my Coir is contained in a smaller bin.
I'm always looking for seeds and cuttings and will gladly offer what I can, even in a round robin.
