County Office-Auditorium


PRES REPORT.  Todd Walker kicked things off at 7 PM.  He welcomed all members and guests.  Introduced the speaker for the evening, Jennifer Keller, speaking on Queen Rearing.  


SECRETARY. Jamie Latimer asked everyone to please sign-in.  Requested approval of July and August minutes.  Copies of the minutes were provided and a brief reading was done prior to approval by the group.


FINANCIAL REPORT.  Amanda Blanks presented the financial report, it shows the club having a Beginning Balance of $6425.60. Monthly Income of $175.00 (Tshirts, raffle tickets) and Expenses of $238.64 (Printing, Speakers, Bee Culture Subscription for library).  Leaving an Ending Balance of $6361.98.

Membership dues will start to be collected in October for 2017, $15 for NCSBA and $5 for PCBA.

Members were also informed about the Farm to Home Market looking for a source for honey year round.


VP REPORT.  Whitney Barnes reported on the Honey Bee Day at the Farmers Market as going well.  It was not busy, but we may have gained a new member.  Personality Festival was successful, raffle tickets were sold.  A motion was made and approved to spend $25 for a booth at Bahama Days 9/24 from 10-2.

Wax workshop presented by OCBA open to members on 9/17.  A suggestion was made to do a small group wax workshop for advanced techniques.    


FUND RAISING.  Mac Blanks stated we have made $300 on raffle ticket sales, $438 dollar from t-shirt and hats.  We need to decide on a new yellow for the "Official" club shirt.  Looking into what is available for a long sleeve shirt and hoodie order.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH.
4-H BEEKEEPERS. Frank gave a status report on the group.  The August 23rd meeting got postponed.  They are planning to meet monthly on 3rd Thursday every month starting September 22.  There are currently 6 members.

VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK.  Lynn Wilson gave a progress report.  A Motion was made that the planned cost be extended to $2100 ( originally $2000 was requested).  The new amount has also been approved.  Volunteers needed 9/16 from 8-12, bring wheelbarrows, pitchforks, tools for spreading mulch.

PERSON COUNTY LIBRARY.  PCBA creates a window display every year in August to tie in with Honey Bee Day.  Please consider volunteering to do this next August.


OLDBUSINESS. 

PCBA ELECTIONS.  We will be electing new officers at the November meeting, please consider nominations for service.

STATE FAIR COMMITTEE.  There are new height restrictions for our booth, making it more difficult to create our normal big display.  

NC STATE FAIR.  Consider volunteering at the NC Beekeeping Booth or Honey Sales.

EXTRACTOR.  Mary Foster has volunteered to house the extractor.

PERSON COUNTY CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.  Motion made\passed to discontinue the chamber membership.

COUNTRY CHRISTMAS.  Tom and Linda Savage have invited the PCBA to setup a booth at the Country Christmas celebration they are having on 11/19 from 3-til dark.  All are welcome to come out for a hay ride through the woods.

QUEEN REARING.  Jennifer Keller, Research Specialist in the Apiculture Lab for NCSU Entomology Program , presented an overview of queen rearing.  She presented basic grafting techniques and encouraged beekeepers to start raising their own queens.
