County Office-Auditorium


PRES REPORT.  Todd Walker got things started at 7 PM.  He welcomed all members and guests.  Introduced each officer for a their reports and introduced himself as our guest speaker.  Todd presented Preparing for Winter (When it's in the 80's). 


SECRETARY.  Jamie Latimer asked members and guest to please sign-in.  June minutes were approved. 


FINANCIAL REPORT.  Amanda Blanks presented the financial report, it shows the club having a Beginning Balance of $6250.69. Monthly expenses of $127.09.  Leaving an Ending Balance of $6123.60. 


FUND RAISING.  Mac Blanks has unclaimed pre-ordered shirts, if you placed an order please pick up.  Unclaimed shirts will be sold.  The 12 Jars of Honey Raffle tickets are printed, it is recommended that each member sell\purchase 10 tickets.  Tickets can be sold at Personality, Framer's Market, work, neighbors, etc.  Hats are available for $12.

COMMUNITY OUTREACH.
4-H BEEKEEPERS.  Frank Hayward reported that things are getting started with the 4-H group.  Capital Power Group donated $500 to the group to help cover expenses.

VETERANS MEMORIAL PARK.  Stan Morton provided the membership with a recap of all the progress being made related to the pollinator garden at the Veteran's Memorial Park.  Susan has volunteered to prepare the landscape design for the garden free of charge.  Plans are being completed for Veteran's and the executive committee to approve.  Planting may start as soon as August 18th to meet a September 25th deadline for formal dedication.  this would include the layout being set, beds composted and prepped.  Planting would begin after September 25th.   An alternate date is November 11th.  Susan is planning shrubs and perennials that will last for multiple seasons.   


NEW BUSINESS. 

BOOKS DONATION TO LIBRARY.  Lynn Wilson is donating 2 books to the Person County Library on behalf of PCBA.  They are "The Bee King" by Geneva Green and "Honey Bee Hai ku".


AUGUST LIBRARY DISPLAY.  Amanda and Mac setup the new display for the month of August.  Please visit the Person County Library and check it out.  Geneva Green will be doing a "Drawing Bees" workshop at the library August 3rd, tied to her new book "The Bee King".  Amanda is also working on a list of all the books donated by PCBA to the Library for our members reference.


EXTENSION DISPLAY.  It was recommended that we add information about the pollinator garden in our display case when it is updated.

EXTRACTOR HOME.  The extractor needs a new home.  Anyone with space available please consider volunteering a location.

NEW OFFICERS.  Start thinking about officers for next year, elections will be in November.  The new President will need to take over quickly, Todd is going to be busy with a new addition to his family.

GAP AWARD.  Keep track of any community outreach you do as a beekeeper.  We will be recording this information for the GAP award.

HONEY BEE DAY.  August 20th is Honey Bee Day, consider selling honey at the Farmer's Market.

MINUTES.  There was a request to get minutes to the membership earlier for more time to review prior to approval. 

PREPARING FOR WINTER
.  Todd Walker, Master Beekeeper
, presented steps you may want to consider taking in order to prepare your honey bee colonies for over-wintering.  Key things to consider are:  the Queen, Disease, Honey stores, Varroa and Winter Bees.  He covered potential re-queening, treating for disease, planning adequate honey stores, feed for winter bees, hive organization, the hazards of Varroa, and the differences in a winter bee and a normal honey bee.  And very key, worked out a schedule for making sure all the necessary preparations are started and kept on track prior to the first eggs being layed for winter bees.
