Hello all,
The summer conference in Wilkes County is July 10-12th and this email is a
reminder of some of the activities going on this year.
The Cooking with Honey Contest will be held again this year. Elaine Styers
has taken over as the chair of this committee and may be reached at
estyres AT gmail.com. You will find the guidelines for this contest in the
members only section of the website or by going to this link (you may need
the password "foragers" to view it):
http://www.ncbeekeepers.org/?p=1234
In addition to the Cooking with Honey Contest, there will also be the Honey
Contest that will include four categories: Honey, Beeswax, Mead, and
Photography. Joe Smith and Bill Smith will be judging again this year.
More information may be found at:
http://www.ncbeekeepers.org/?p=132
Please bring items for the silent auction. Items do not have to be
beekeeping related as long as they are new and useful items. Proceeds go
to the Apiculture Science Fund at NCSU Entomology/Beekeeping Department.
Also this year, Bill Clothier and Rick Coor will be collecting honey for
sale with the proceeds being donated to the NC Disabled American Veterans
program. A special account has been created for this program and Bill and
Rick will be discussing it at the conference, but anyone wishing to donate
honey for this program should bring a jar of honey to the conference. Make
sure that you have a label on the jar with your information. If you or
your chapter would prefer to sell your own honey and donate part of the
proceeds to the Honey for Disabled Vets program, a check may be sent to
Bill or Rick for deposit in the special account. An update of how well the
program is doing and the chapters that are participating will be added to
the ncbeekeepers.org website. If you have questions, please contact Bill
directly at photonavy AT hotmail.com.
More information is being added to the website daily regarding activities
at the Summer Conference. We're currently adding bio information for the
presenters of the workshops and also some information about what the
workshops will cover. There are already bios for the guest speakers and
there's a pretty impressive agenda for the conference.
The Beekeepers of Wilkes County are hosting the conference this year and
they are looking for volunteers, sponsorships, and door prizes. If you can
help out, please email Jeremy Bowlin at president AT beekeepersofwilkes.org.
