Rental Fee and Payment: The charge is $10 for use of the extractor for up to 4 days for PCBA members whose dues are current. Cash payment or a check made payable to Person County Beekeepers Association (PCBA) should be given to Amanda Blanks (PCBA Treasurer) at the next PCBA meeting or mailed to her at 206 N Charles St Roxboro NC 27573.

Other Fees: A fee of $20 will be charged for failure to clean the equipment or return it on time.

Instructions For Use:

  • After uncapping the frame place it in the extractor rack.
  • Spin at moderate speed for 1 to 2 minutes, then spin again at moderate speed for one or two minutes then faster for 1 minute to remove as much honey as possible. Spinning speed should not be so fast or vigorous to distort the foundation
  • Allow honey to drain through the open gate through the filter into the bucket below.
  • The extractor should be cleaned after each use by one of two following methods

1.   Place the “empty” extractor and other equipment near your hives so the bees can retrieve the remainder of the honey.  Then rinse out any residual honey and wax and spray with a dilute bleach solution (1 part bleach, 3 parts water) and rinse thoroughly.

2.    At a coin operated car-wash, use the high-pressure soap setting followed by the rinse setting to thoroughly remove all of the honey and wax from the extractor and other equipment. Note: before using a coin operated car wash to clean the extractor one needs to check with the management to be sure the water coming from the wand is potable.

  • If transporting the extractor in an open-bed truck, the extractor must be tied down.

Inspection: It will be the responsibility of the individual storing the equipment and the person renting it to inspect the gear before and after checkout using a record log that will be initialed by both parties. Any damages recorded beyond normal wear and tear will be brought to the attention of the club and handled on a case-by-case basis.
