There are many free alternatives to photobucket and imgur (owned by
Reddit), instagram (owned by Facebook), Tumblr that allow linking to your
images from anywhere on the Web, i.e. public access and are Google
indexable/searchable.
The best, free (there may be a collection size limit in gigabytes applied
to some in the following list), secure, reliable and long term hosting
resources'for images, videos, .pdf, spreadsheet and text are those offered
by Google:
Google Sites
Sites does not display images or thumbnails directly. You can click on urls
you provide (i.e. to locations in Groups, Blogger, Google+, Photos, Drive,
etc.) or on items in a list. You upload your images and titles/filenames go
into a list visitors click on to view or download them. You can also create
subpages, offshoots of your main/home page, each with its own collection of
viewable/downloadable image (or other) files.
Google Groups (you can attach images to posts)
Google Blogger (images in posts)
Google+

Every collection is a focused set of posts on a particular topic, providing
an easy way for you to organize all the things you’re into. Each collection
can be shared publicly, privately, or with a custom set of people. Once you
create your first collection, your profile will display a new tab where
other people can find and follow your collections.

Using all or some of these resources can provide considerable space for
free hosting of images plus descriptive text.
Linking one to another is easy and effective. Start with a simple Google
Site and direct visitors to collections hosted in other Google resources.
or create a free business page in Google+ and link outward from there.
There are other free options:
Ello, which is not for everyone. The image quality they deliver to visitors
is almost unequalled online by any free hosting service
Flickr (now owned by Verizon), also Flickr Pro
